Dr. Yosra A Helmy is a PostDoc in the Section of Food Animal Health Research at Ohio State University and works at the University of Kentucky. She completed her Ph.D. in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Freie Universität Berlin in 2014. Her research focuses on food safety and public health through the mitigation of important foodborne pathogens. She is working on developing novel therapeutics and antibiotic alternative approaches including probiotics, anti-virulence (quorum sensing inhibitors) drugs, and small molecule growth inhibitors to control these pathogens which can also mitigate the antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in food animals.
