Vittorio Bellani is a professor at the Department of Physics, University of Pavia, Italy. He has been a Post-Doc researcher with a European Union “Human Capital and Mobility” fellowship at the Department of Material Science, Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain (1994–1996) and FNRS junior research
fellow at the Institute of Applied Physics, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland (1990–1993). He obtained his Ph.D. in Physics in 1994 at the University of Pavia. His current research deals with the experimental study of graphene and carbon and semiconductors nanostructures
using optical and electrical techniques, for the comprehension of their properties and the development of new devices.
Prof. Dr. Vincenzo Bonaiuto is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Since June 2017 he has been scientific director of the Sports Engineering Laboratory—University of Rome Tor Vergata. His main research interests are in the area of hardware development for signal processing, including non-linear circuits, artificial neural networks, and analogue/digital
VLSI circuit implementation.
Fabio De Matteis graduated in Physics at the University of Rome-La Sapienza, in 1987 and received a PhD in Physics from the University of Antwerp, Belgium in 1993. He has been a Researcher at the University of Rome Tor Vergata since 1995. His scientific interest has been devoted to the following: the synthesis and optical characterization of dielectric materials for photonics studied using several spectroscopic techniques (absorption and luminescence, static and time-resolved by ultra-fast techniques, Raman); synthesis and nonlinear optical characterization of materials functionalized by electrooptic molecular moieties for optoelectronics; polar ordering of nonlinear chromophores induced by corona and electrode poling; surface nanostructuring (mono and bi-dimensional gratings) in insulating materials by
photolithographic techniques; bio-polymeric scaffolds by two-photon polymerization for tissue engineering; and impedance spectroscopy of solid electrolyte materials showing ionic conduction.
Prof. Dr. Sviatoslav Ditalia Tchernij received a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Turin in 2019. From 2022 to the present, Prof. Ditalia Tchernij is a Researcher at the University of Turin. Prof. Ditalia Tchernij’s research topics mainly include solid-state defects; diamond optical properties; quantum optics; ion beam implantation; and ion beam lithography.
Andrea Fontana
Andrea Fontana has been working as a Senior Researcher at INFN Sezione di Pavia since 2005. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Pavia between 1994 and 1998, and also held an INFN Scholarship in Pavia from 1992 to 1994. Prior to that, he completed his M.Sc. in Physics from the University of Pavia, spanning from 1987 to 1992. From 1998 to 2005, Andrea worked as a Post-Doc Researcher at the University of Pavia. Currently, he is involved in the following main activities: Quantum
Physics, as a member of the INFN team for the National Quantum Science and Technology Institute (NQSTI); modeling of low-energy nuclear reactions for BNCT (GEANT4-INFN); and modeling of nanoscale track-structure EM interactions (MANIFOLD).
Prof. Dr. Jacopo Forneris has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, Università degli Studi di Torino, Italy since 2019. From 2016 to 2019, He served as National coordinator at the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, Frascati, Lazio, Italy. His research interests include fabrication, Diamond, Ionizing Radiation, ions, and ion beams.
Prof. Dr. Roberto Francini has been a confirmed associate professor for the scientific-disciplinary sector FIS/03 Physics of Matter at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. In 1983–1987, He was the winner of the free competition for university researchers at the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical, and Natural Sciences of the University of Rome - Tor Vergata. He was a confirmed university researcher at the Department of Physics of the University of Rome Tor Vergata from 1987 to 2001. From 1 November 2001, he was an unconfirmed associate professor for the scientific-disciplinary sector FIS/03 Physics of Matter at the MM.FF.NN Faculty of Sciences. of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
Dr. Luca Frontini received the Laurea degree in physics in 2015 (University of Milan), in 2019 he receivedthe Ph.D. in Computer Science (University of Milan). He is currently a postdoc at INFN Milan. His main interests are: design of mixed-signal circuits, VLSI design, rad-hard electronics, and integrated photonic devices.
Roberto Gunnella is an Associate professor at the School of Science and Technology of the University of Camerino. He obtained a Full professorship National Qualification in 2017. He was a Visiting Professor at
USTC NSRL, Hefei, China in 2013. He was a Research Assistant at the Surface Science laboratory of the Physics department of the University of Camerino in 1998. He completed postdoctoral work at the CNRS-LEPES Laboratory in Grenoble. He received a Ph.D. at the University of L’Aquila. He graduated from “La
Sapienza” University of Rome. He published more than 130 papers.
Ali Emre Kaplan is an Enterprise Fellow in the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton. He received his M.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering from the University of Bologna in 2016 and his Ph.D. from the University of Ferrara in the field of Integrated Photonics in 2020. Subsequently he was with the University of Bologna as a Research Fellow. In 2021 he won a Research Fellowship from the University of Pavia and worked with the Photonics Group until September 2022. He has over 5 years of experience in the design of photonic integrated circuits in various technology platforms
such as Silicon-on-Insulator, Silicon Nitride and Indium Phosphide. During his doctoral and post-doctoral studies, he was a visiting researcher in European institutes in the Netherlands and France.
Dr. Cosimo Lacava is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pavia. He served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, University of Southampton. He graduated with honors in Electronic Engineering at the University of Pavia in 2011. He then joined the Quantum Electronics research group at the University of Pavia as a PhD student, working on nonlinear optical properties of compact, integrated waveguides, mainly made using the silicon photonics platform. He obtained his PhD in Optoelectronics and Electronic Engineering in 2014. He continued working at the Quantum Electronics Laboratory as a Postdoc researcher, working on a novel Silicon Photonics transceiver device for the next-generation optical network in the frame of the “Fabulous” European Project. At the end of 2014, he moved to Southampton to join ORC. His research interests are nonlinear optics, all-optical signal processing, silicon photonic devices, and integrated optics.
Prof. Dr. Paolo Prosposito is an associate professor at the Industrial Engineering Department of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” and he is recently been approved for the role of Full Professor in Experimental Physics of Matter by the National Scientific Enabling procedure. His main skills and expertise are in experimental Physics with special regard to Material Science and Optical Spectroscopy.
Prof. Dr. Andrea Salamon is Senior Researcher at INFN Section of Roma Tor Vergata, Via della Ricerca Scientifica 1, Rome, Italy. He received a Master's Degree in Physics at the Sapienza University of Rome in 1997 and completed his Ph.D. studies at the same university in 2001. His research interests include instrumentation for high energy physics, analog and digital electronics, integrated photonics and quantum information and he is the author or co-author of more than 600 publications in peer reviewed international journals or conferences proceedings.
Prof. Dr. Fausto Sargeni graduated in Electronic Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 1987. He has been a tenured researcher at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rome Tor Vergata from November 1989 to October 1998. In 1997-1998, he was a collaborator of the Institute of the Italian Encyclopedia for which he edited some entries. In November 1998, he served as an Associate Professor for the scientific-disciplinary sector ING-IND/31 (Electrotechnics) at the Department of Electronic Engineering of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. He was a scientific manager or project manager of third-party contracts and FUSE and MEPI projects for the introduction of new electronic technologies in small and medium-sized enterprises. He participated in various PRIN projects and was the national coordinator of the PRIN 2004 project "Cellular Neural Circuits for the Real-time Processing of Ophthalmic Images in Aid of Medical Diagnostics" and Unit Manager of the PRIN 2006 project "Design and Synthesis Methodologies of nonlinear analog circuits with application to networks of biological neurons". He has been a reviewer of numerous articles for international conferences and journals. He is the author or co-author of approximately 100 publications in international journals or conferences.
Jafar Shojaii is the head of the Nanoscale Electronics Group. From 2012 to 2023, he was a member of the ATLAS experiment at CERN. He is the Lead Chief Investigator of a Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG) program. He graduated from the University of Milan. He was with the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and CERN from 2012 to 2017 and with the University of Melbourne from 2017 to 2022. Also, he is an honorary fellow at the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics and the University of Melbourne. His work on rad-hard semiconductor electronics includes the design of ASIC chips at the transistor level and characterization/radiation testing of the chip prototypes under heavy ions and high-energy proton beams by using accelerator machines in collaboration with CERN, ANSTO and the University of Kyoto.
Dr. Alessandra Toncelli obtained her PhD in Physics in 1998 at the University of Pisa. Since 2017, she has been an associate professor at the Physics Department of the University of Pisa. Her research
interests comprise the growth, development, and characterization of optical materials and devices in the whole optical range from UV-VIS down to mid-infrared and THz regions. During her career, she characterized and optimized many devices and materials aimed at many different applications such
as photonics, scintillation, and quantum information technologies, etc. In all these research areas, she has published more than 180 articles in peer-reviewed International journals and holds two patents.
Gabriella Trucco received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, in 2002 and 2005, respectively. Since 2006, she has been an Assistant Professor at the Università degli Studi di Milano. Her research interests include bioinformatics and the development of algorithms for phylogenetic analysis, the analysis of noncoding DNA, and the application of machine learning techniques.
