Author Biographies

Prof. Dr. Simona Di Fraia obtained an M.Sc. in 2013 with honors in environmental engineering at the University of Napoli Federico II and a Ph.D. in 2017 in energy science and engineering at the University of Napoli "Parthenope". Since 2017, she has worked as a research fellow and then as an assistant professor of applied thermodynamics and thermal science at the Department of Engineering of the University of Napoli "Parthenope". She teaches courses on environmental control techniques and applied thermodynamics and thermal science. She has been a visiting student at the Technical University of Harburg, a visiting research student at Swansea University, and a visiting researcher at Rhode Island University and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. She has participated in the research activities of several R&D projects related to innovative energy conversion systems. Her scientific interests are related to thermo-fluid dynamics and heat transfer, energy efficiency, and energy conversion systems with low environmental impact, mainly focusing on bioenergy applications. She is the author of 50 scientific publications including papers in international journals, proceedings of national and international conferences, and chapters of international books. She is the Topic Editor of the International Journal of Sustainability and a member of the scientific advisory boards of several international conferences.

Prof. Dr. Laura Vanoli obtained her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the Department of Industrial Engineering of the University of Cassino and currently serves as a full professor in the Department of Engineering at Parthenope University of Naples. From November 1999 to October 2003 she was an assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Cassino. From November 2003 to January 2005, she worked as an assistant professor at the Department of Food Science of the University of Naples Federico II. In October 2003, she won the competitive exam to become an associate professor of thermal sciences. From January 2005 to October 2008, she worked as an associate professor in the Department of Food Science of the University of Naples Federico II. Her research interests cover thermodynamic and thermo-economic analysis of advanced energy systems, energy saving, renewable energy sources, thermo-fluid-dynamic measurement, and heat and mass transfer through porous media. She has also served as a referee for the International Journal of Thermodynamics, Journal of Fuel Cell Science and Technology, Waste Management, Energy and Buildings, Journal of Thermodynamics, Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science.
