Othman Al MusaimiĀ has been a Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry at the School of Pharmacy since Sep 2023. Before this role, he worked as a Research Associate at Imperial College London. He has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Kwazulu-Natal - South Africa. His research interests focus on developing synthetic, separation, and purification methodologies for peptides.
Prof. Dr. Fernando Albericio earned a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Barcelona in 1981. He has been a Research Professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal since 2012 and a Principal Investigator at CIBER-BBN (Networking Centre on Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine) since 2005. He was a Full/Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona (1985-2023); the Rector at the University of Yachay (2014-2015); a Visiting Professor at King Saud University (2014-2020); and a Group Leader at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Barcelona, Barcelona Science Park (2003-2015). Prof. Dr. Fernando Albericio has written one book, edited three Volumes, published more than 1000 papers, and obtained more than 60 patents. He was the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Methods and Protocols Journal at MDPI and an Editorial Board Member of many international journals, such as Molecules, Antibiotics, Future Medicinal Chemistry, Frontiers in Chemical Biology (Chemistry), and so on. He has won several awards, including being nominated for the National Science Technology Forum (NSTF)-South32 Awards (2022-2023) by South Africa, an Emeritus Full Professor (2023) by the University of Barcelona, and the Murray Goodman Scientific Excellence & Mentorship Award (2019) by the American Peptide Society. His research interests include organic chemistry, organic synthesis, peptides, mechanisms of action, and the interaction of peptides with eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells.
Prof. Dr. Beatriz G De la Torre obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona (Spain). After a dilated career in Spain, she is presently a Research Professor at KRISP, College of Health Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban, South Africa). She has been working extensively on glyco-, nucleo-, and lipopeptides. Her scientific interests are focused more on the discovery of new antimicrobial peptides, including those for fighting tuberculosis, peptide-based vaccines, and peptide-based drug-delivery systems. Lastly, she is also deeply involved in developing GREEN Solid-Phase Peptide Synthesis Strategies.
