Prof. Stella Sofia Kyvelou is a senior expert
in spatial planning and sustainable development, blue economy and maritime
spatial planning (MSP). She is the geographical expert for the Eastern
Mediterranean, as part of the AM MSP. Stella is a professor with the Department of
Economic and Regional Development of Panteion University in Athens. She
studied Architecture–Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens
and holds a post-graduate DEA and PhD in Spatial, Regional, and Urban Planning from
the University Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne. Her research activities include
European territorial development and cohesion, and she was Head of the ESPON2013
National Contact Point. Currently, she is PI of the HER-SEA national research
project “Developing an Observation Network for Maritime Cultural Heritage
(MUCH) in Greece” and coordinator of the REGINA-MSP EMFAF Project dealing with
regions to boost national MSP. She served as department head (2018–2020) and Head
of the Postgraduate/Doctoral Studies (2021–2023) at the departmentand and was Special
Adviser to the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy (2018–2019). She
is member of the Hellenic National Spatial Planning Council (2022–current).
Dimitra Kitsiou is an Associate Professor in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of the Aegean, Greece. She studied Physics at the University of Athens, She holds an MSc in Radioelectronics from the same University and a PhD in Application of Geoinformatics in Environmental Sciences from the University of the Aegean (1997). Her research interests focus on the application of modern expertise in the framework of GIS for the development of methodologies to study the coastal environment, the quantitative and spatiotemporal assessment of marine eutrophication, the circulation of seawater masses, the monitoring of sea water pollution, and the estimation of fishing activity.
