Author Biographies

Domenico Iacopetta received his Ph.D. in “Cellular Biochemistry and Drug Activity in Oncology” from the University of Calabria in 2006. From 2010 to date, he has been a contract professor at the Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Sciences, University of Calabria. His scientific activity is addressed to the study of new molecules and naturally derived drugs and their effects on in vivo and in vitro models. He studied the transport proteins in biological membranes and their implications in human pathologies, the role of androgen receptor (AR) overexpression and some mutated forms of estrogen receptor alpha (ERα) in breast cancer progression and the resistance to the most used anticancer drugs, as tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitors (anastrozole). He studied the effects of newly synthesized molecules (particularly, NHC-metal complexes and carbazole derivatives) or natural extracts as anticancer, antibacterial and antioxidant. Particularly, he focused his attention on new inhibitors of human topoisomerases and compounds interfering with actin and tubulin dynamics, using phospholipidic nanoparticles and cellular cultures.
Alessia Catalano is an Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy—Drug Science, Università degli studi di Bari Aldo Moro, Bari, Italy. She authored/co-authored 126 publications with 4310 citations and an h-index of 32 (Scopus, February 2024). Her research interests focus on antimicrobials, cancer, medicinal chemistry, myotonias, heavy metals, etc.
Jessica Ceramella is a PostDoc Researcher at the Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Sciences, Università della Calabria. She completed her Ph.D. from the University of Calabria in 2020. She authored/co-authored 71 publications with 1489 citations and an h-index of 22 (Scopus, December 2023). Her research interests focus on targeted therapy, cancer, metastasis, personalized medicine, cancer metastasis, etc.
Michele Pellegrino is a Technical Administrative Staff at the Department of Pharmacy and Health and Nutrition Sciences, Università della Calabria. He authored/co-authored 52 publications with 1398 citations and an h-index of 21 (Scopus, December 2023). His research interests mainly focus on breast cancer, and tamoxifen resistancE.
Maria Marra graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Calabria (Unical) and is currently undertaking a PhD in Life Sciences at the same institution. Her research interests lie in the biological evaluation of molecules of pharmaceutical interest. In particular, she studies the antimicrobial activity of bioactive molecules.

Maria Stefania Sinicropi has been an Associate Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Pharmacy, Health and Nutritional Science of the University of Calabria since December 2006. The main focus of the research activity concerns the study of new molecules as anticancer drugs; the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of compounds of pharmaceutic interest; and the study and biological evaluation of nutraceuticals. Currently, she is the scientific coordinator of the Master's Degree Course in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and of the Master Course of II level in “Nutrition and Nutraceutical Supplements” at the University of Calabria. She coordinated many research projects and is a teacher of some courses in the pharmaceutical field. She trained several Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows and collaborated with numerous national and international research groups in the field of medicinal chemistry and nutraceuticals. She is the author/co-author of 179 publications with 5809 citations and an h-index of 40 (Scopus, December 2023).
