Author Biographies

Dr. Emily J. Potratz received her B.S. in Animal Sciences: Behavior and Well-Being, from Purdue University in 2012 and obtained her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences: Ecology and Evolution, from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2023. Her research uses non-invasive behavioral and physiological indicators to understand how wildlife cope in changing environments.
Dr. Robert D. Holt received his B.S. in Physics from Princeton in 1973 and obtained his Ph.D. in Biology from Harvard in 1979. His research uses theoretical and empirical approaches to answer ecological and evolution-focused questions. His research spans integrating community ecology perspectives into traditional arenas of evolutionary ecology, indirect interactions in multispecies communities, exploring how resources and predation drive infectious disease dynamics and impacts in ecological communities, and analyses of genetic, phenotypic and ecological influences on evolutionary rescue and niche conservatism. He worked at the University of Kansas, the Museum of Natural History as a curator, and is currently an Eminent Scholar and Arthur R. Marshal Jr. Chair in Ecological Studies at the University of Florida.
Dr. Joel S. Brown received his B.A. in Zoology from Pomona College in 1976 and obtained his Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona in 1980. He is an educator, biomathematician, and educator with expertise in invasive species ecology, evolutionary game theory, rapid adaptive evolution, landscape ecology and tumor evolution and ecology. He is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus following 30 years as a faculty member at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He is also a senior member of Moffitt’s Department of Integrated Mathematical Biology (IMO), Cancer Evolution Group, and Center of Excellence in Evolutionary Therapy.
