Du Toit Loots is a Professor and Research Director of
Human Metabolomics at North-West University. He is also the Founder, CEO, and
Managing Director at Apex Nutrition and Supplementation. Professor Loots has a keen
interest and expertise in discovering new biomarkers through metabolomics. He
applies this knowledge to better characterize, diagnose and treat diseases.
Recently, he has also used metabolomics technology to understand the impact of
different sports activities on the human metabolome. Based on these
discoveries, he has developed various sports nutrition and supplementation
interventions. So far, he has contributed to over 100 international
publications on these topics and has registered 2 full patents. For the last 20
years, he has served as a nutrition and supplementation consultant to elite
drug-tested athletes of all ages and various sporting federations. Due to his
efforts, he has received several awards, including the International Nestle
Nutrition Institute for Africa Research Award, Janssen-Cilag Award,
International ARP Walker Research Award, and International Scripps Centre for
Integrative Medicine's Research Award.
