Author Biographies

Jorge Flavio Sarmiento Falla is a Doctoral student in Industrial Engineering with a focus in Quality, Modeling and Simulation. He currently serves as a Graduate Teaching Associate at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems, University of Central Florida. He earned his Master’s and Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida in 2018 and 2022, respectively.
Waldemar Karwowski is a Pegasus Professor and Chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management Systems and Executive Director, Institute for Advanced Systems Engineering, University of Central Florida, Orlando, USA. He received an M.Sc. degree in production engineering and management from the University of Technology of Wroclaw, Poland, a Ph.D. degree in industrial engineering from Texas Tech University, USA, and a D.Sc. degree in management science from ORGMASZ, Poland. His research interests include human systems integration, human factors, safety, neuroergonomics, soft computing, and nonlinear dynamics. He was elected Fellow of the Ergonomics Society (UK), Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), and the International Ergonomics Association (IEA). He received the William Floyd Award from the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics & Human Factors, the United Kingdom (2017) and the David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers, Atlanta (2020). He was elected to the Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida (ASEMFL), Orlando, Florida (2020). He was awarded the Arnold M. Small and Betty Sanders President’s Distinguished Service Award, HFES (2021). He is past President of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (2007), and the International Ergonomics Association (2000-2003).
