Aaron J. May is a graduate student in the laboratory of Dr. Priyamvada Acharya at Duke University. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2018 and began his Ph.D. program in Duke University's Department of Biochemistry in 2020. His research is focused on understanding the entry mechanisms of Henipaviruses and applying the knowledge for the development of vaccines and therapeutics.
Dr. Priyamvada Acharya is an associate professor in surgery at Duke University and the director of the Division of Structural Biology at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute (DHVI). She received her master’s degree in 1996 at Jadavpur University and completed her Ph.D. studies in 2003 at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (India). She has 72 publications with 5704 citations and an h-index of 37 (Scopus, 26 December 2023). Her research is focused on understanding the mechanisms of virus entry. Cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography are the primary structural biology tools she uses to visualize viral entry intermediates and their interactions with the human immune system.
