Dr. Giovanni Marasco is a senior assistant professor at the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences, University of Bologna. He completed his Ph.D. studies in Ultrasound at the University of Bologna. From December 2019 to November 2020. He is also a specialist in gastroenterology, hepatology, and digestive endoscopy. From 7th November 2020 to 7th November 2022, he worked as a Youth Editorial Board Member at OAE Publishing Inc., Beijing, China. His research activity is focused on the evaluation of gut microbiota composition and modulation with probiotics, antibiotics, and fecal microbiota transplantation in gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
Dr. Cesare Cremon, currently serving as a medical manager at Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna, has held significant roles as a medical director within the same institution and has been actively contributing to the field of medicine for many years. Dr. Cesare Cremon’s educational journey includes a master’s degree in “Advanced Endoscopy” from the University of Bologna, specializing in internal medicine with honors and earning a medical and surgery degree with high honors.
Dr. Giovanni Barbara is a professor of internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Bologna. He completed his Ph.D. Summa Cum Laude at the Faculty of Medicine, Italy, and has been awarded the Young Investigator Award from the Functional Brain–Gut Research Group, USA; the Investigator Award from the European Symposium on Neurogastroenterology; and the Motility and Masters Award for Basic or Clinical Research in Digestive Sciences, USA. He has recently led several projects. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the ESNM and a member of the Board of Directors of the Rome Foundation. His research focuses on neurogastroenterology, brain–gut interactions, and the intestinal microenvironment (microbiota–host interactions).
Brigida Barberio is a gastroenterology consultant and Ph.D. student in Clinical and Experimental Oncology and Immunology at the University Hospital of Padova, Italy. Her main scientific interest has always been IBD, and her Ph.D. project aims to identify potential non-invasive and early biomarkers, including micro-RNAs, for IBD-related colorectal cancer. During her clinical research fellowship at NHS Teaching Hospital, University of Leeds (UK), she evaluated the epidemiology, prognosis, and risk factors of different disorders associated with IBD through the implementation of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. In addition, she evaluated the effectiveness and safety of different therapeutic approaches in these patients through network meta-analyses. This research background has led to several international publications in journals with high-impact factors.
Fabiana Zingone is an associate professor at the Gastroenterology Unit at Azienda Ospedale Università Padova, Italy, specializing in immune-mediated gastrointestinal disorders with a focus on celiac disease. After completing her residency at the “Federico II” University of Naples in 2012, she was awarded a Clinical Research Training Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Epidemiology at the University of Nottingham, during which she obtained a Master of Science in Applied Epidemiology. From 2013 to 2017, she conducted various research projects on celiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease at the University of Salerno. In December 2015, she completed her Ph.D. on the epidemiology of celiac disease. In June 2017, she was appointed as an assistant professor at the Department of Surgery, Oncology, and Gastroenterology at the University of Padua. Dr. Zingone has completed extensive international collaborations with leading figures in celiac disease research and has received multiple awards for her work in the field. She currently serves on the boards of the International Society for the Study of Celiac Disease (ISSCD) and the Italian Society of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy (SIGE).
Prof. Edoardo Vincenzo Savarino received his medical and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Genoa, Genoa, Italy. He completed his residency training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the Department of Internal Medicine, Azienda Ospedaliera-Universitaria San Martino of Genoa, Genoa, Italy. Presently, he is an associate professor of gastroenterology at the University of Padua, Padua, Italy. He is mainly interested in neurogastroenterology and immune-mediated diseases, including inflammatory bowel diseases and eosinophilic disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. He has published extensively (h-index 60; published papers n = 536) on gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), esophageal motility disorders, Barrett’s esophagus, chronic gastritis, functional GI disorders (functional dyspepsia and irritable bowel syndrome), eosinophilic esophagitis, and inflammatory bowel diseases. He has received various prizes for his work from the UEG Federation, the OESO foundation, the ISDE, and Società Italiana di Gastroenterologia ed Endoscopia. He is a reviewer for various journals, including The New England Journal of Medicine, The American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Gastroenterology, Gut, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, and Neurogastroenterology and Motility (NMO).
