Dr. Ferdinand Knieling is a clinician scientist and principal investigator in the Department for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at University Hospital Erlangen. His research focuses on the translation of novel imaging modalities to clinical applications. Before his appointment to Erlangen, he was a visiting researcher at the Molecular Imaging Program at Stanford University (MIPS). Projects in Dr. Knieling’s laboratory include preclinical and clinical applications of novel light- and sound-based imaging modalities. In particular, he is interested in chronic inflammatory and rare degenerative diseases. Within his work, he describes novel clinical applications of multispectral optoacoustic tomography (MSOT) to monitor disease progression or therapeutic interventions.
