Dr. Raffaella Gozzelino graduated from the University of Parma (Faculty of Pharmacy, Italy) in 2001. She moved to Spain to continue her Master's and Ph.D. studies in Cell Biology (Neurobiology) at the University of Lerida (Faculty of Medicine, Spain) in 2005 and 2007, respectively. She moved to Portugal in December 2007 to start her post-doctoral studies in Inflammation and Infection at the Gulbenkian Institute in Oeiras, where she became a staff scientist in 2012. Since 2015, She has been a Group Leader at NOVA Medical School Research, NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal, where she directs the Inflammation and Neurodegeneration Laboratory. In 2023, she founded Diáspora Mundi. She is also an international consultant for the WHO; co-Chair of DOTCAN (Development of Ocean Tech Capacity for African Nation), a Canadian NGO operating in West Africa; Member of the Board of Directors of the International Society for the Study of Iron in medicine and Biology (BioIron); Member of the Reviewing Panel for Funding Attribution of 12 International Granting Agencies (European and not); External collaborator of the Centre for Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Changes at the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon; Invited Lecturer, Medical and Scientific Translator; and an Editor of >10 and Reviewer of >40 international scientific peer-reviewed journals.
