Prof. Dr. José María Ponce-Ortega is a Full Professor at the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo. He received his Master’s and PhD degrees in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Technology of Celaya in Mexico in 2003 and 2009, respectively. He stayed as a postdoctoral researcher at Texas A&M University from 2011 to 2012 and as a visiting scholar at Carnegie Mellon University from 2006 to 2007. He is also a member of the National Research System of Mexico. His research interest is in the areas of optimization of chemical processes, sustainable design, energy, mass, water and property integration and supply chain optimization. He has 393 publications with 6682 citations and an h-index of 42 (Scopus, 27 December 2023). He has supervised 12 Ph.D. and 20 Master's graduate students. He also has 15 funded research projects for about $US 1,000,000.00. Furthermore, he is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journals: Clean Technologies and Environmental Policy Journal, and Process Integration and Optimization for Sustainability.
