Prof. Serena Danti is a senior researcher at the Department of Civil & Industrial Engineering, the University of Pisa (UNIPI). She received an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pisa in 2003. In 2004, she was enrolled in a multidisciplinary Ph.D. program at the Centre for Excellence in Computer Assisted Surgery (ENDOCAS) in Pisa, and in 2006, she was appointed as a scholar research associate at the Centre for Excellence in Tissue Engineering (Mikos Lab), Rice University, Houston TX, USA. She received her Ph.D. in March 2007, defending a thesis on middle ear tissue engineering. She is a Professor of Biomaterials for Materials and holds a Nanotechnology Master's Degree (degree in sharing with NEST laboratory, Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa). She has qualified on a national basis for an associate professorship in Materials Science & Engineering and Bioengineering. She acted as a scientific co-coordinator of research projects on ear tissue engineering funded by the Tuscany Region, MIUR, and the Italian Ministry of Health. She has authored about 90 papers in international journals, 12 book chapters, and 5 patents. She received research fellowships from Pisa Hospital, ENT, Audiology & Phoniatrics Unit, where she established a laboratory of otologic bioengineering (OtoLab). Her main interests are ears, bones, and cancer.
