Dr. Luciano da Silva Cabral is a full Professor at the Federal
University of Mato Grosso-Cuiabá-Mato Grosso-Brazil. He received his B.S. in
Animal Science (1996) from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (RJ), and his M.S. (1999) and Ph.D. (2002) in Animal Science from the Federal University of
Viçosa, Minas Gerais, Brazil. His thesis topics included the evaluation of feeds
for ruminants through in vitro and in vivo assays as well as through the determination of
carbohydrate and nitrogen fractions and their digestion rates. After
graduation, he became a Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso where he teaches ruminant nutrition and rumen microbiology in undergraduate and
graduate courses and develops research on feed evaluation and ruminal
microbiology. He is a member of the Brazilian Society of Animal Science for
which he is currently the vice president.
Dr. Paul J Weimer is an Associate Professor Emeritus at the
Department of Bacteriology, University of Wisconsin–Madison. He received his
Master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1975 and completed
his PhD studies at the same University in 1978. He has over forty years of
experience in government, industrial, and academic laboratories in the area of
microbiology, biochemistry, and metabolism of strictly anaerobic bacteria, with
an emphasis on cellulose biodegradation; anaerobic culture and bioreactor methods;
biomass fermentations into fuels and chemicals (particularly the carboxylate
platform for organic acid synthesis); and ruminal microbial ecology and its
relationship with dairy production.
