Sara M. Lewis is an American
biologist, professor, author and firefly expert. Lewis is a Professor emerita
of Biology at Tufts University, and co-chair of the Firefly Specialist Group at the
Species Survival Commission of the International Union for the Conservation of
Nature. She is author of the popular science book, Silent Sparks: The Wondrous World of
Fireflies. An evolutionary ecologist, her previous research interests include
coral reef ecology, courtship and mating behavior in insects, pre- and
post-copulatory sexual selection and vacancy chains and shell selection in
hermit crabs. Her current work focuses on global firefly conservation.
Wan F.A. Jusoh currently holds the
position of Senior Lecturer in Biodiversity and Conservation at Monash
University Malaysia's School of Science. Previously, she worked as a Research
Fellow at the National University of Singapore, focused on researching the
virtual repatriation of Singapore's natural heritage. Her previous experience
in conservation was as a Senior Programme Officer for the Peninsular Malaysia
Terrestrial Conservation Programme, WWF Malaysia, where she led a team to
advocate for the protection of the Setiu Wetlands in Terengganu from 2015 to
2017. Wan conducts research at the intersection of biodiversity research and
the history of natural heritage, from studying flashing fireflies to
reconstructing timelines of how ecosystems have evolved.
