Dr. Massimo Sartelli is a consultant surgeon at the Department of General and Emergency Surgery, Macerata Hospital (Italy). He is also a Coordinator of Scientific Activities and a Member of the Hospital Infection Control Committee. Additionally, he is deputy editor of the World Journal of Emergency Surgery (WJES) and a member of the Board of Directors of the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES). He is a member of the steering committee of the European Sepsis Alliance (ESA) and of the council of the Surgical Infection Society Europe (SIS-E). He is the founder and acting director of the Global Alliance for Infections in Surgery. His scientific activity is documented by publications in international scientific journals. He is the author/co-author of eight manuals on emergency surgery.
Federico Coccolini, M.D. is a professor of surgery and consultant in general, emergency, and trauma surgery working at the Pisa University Hospital (Pisa, Italy). He teaches emergency and trauma surgery at the University of Pisa. He has deep and documented experience in managing post-traumatic and non-post-traumatic patients. His principal interests are emergency surgery, trauma surgery, advanced oncology, oncologic gastrointestinal surgery, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, tissue engineering and experimental surgery, evidence-based medicine, and surgery. He is the principal investigator of multicentre studies and registers. He has authored hundreds of papers and tens of book chapters. He has also edited several books and a book series. Furthermore, he has served as a reviewer for several journals. He is the Vice President of the World Society of Emergency Surgery (WSES) and of the World Journal of Emergency Surgery (WJES), head of the scientific committee of the EVTM Society, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Society of Emergency Surgery and Trauma, of the Italian Society of Geriatric Surgery, and of the Italian Society of Surgical Physiopathology.
Prof. Marco Catarci is the Director of the General Surgery Unit of the “Sandro Pertini” Hospital in Rome, ASL Roma 2. He is a specialist in general surgery and oncology. He received a degree in medicine and surgery from Sapienza University of Rome in 1989. From 29 June 1999 to 31 January 2017, he was Medical Director at the Department of Surgery of the San Filippo Neri Hospital Complex in Rome. From 1 February 2017 to 31 October 2020, he was U.O.C. Director General Surgery of Hospital C and G "Mazzoni". His main fields of clinical and scientific interest are oncological surgery and minimally invasive surgery in abdominal pathologies. He is the author and co-author of over 360 scientific publications and has been a speaker at over 250 national and international conferences.
Varut Lohsiriwat is professor at Siriraj Hospital. He graduated as a Doctor of Medicine (first-class honors and gold medal) from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand in 1999. He completed training in general surgery and colorectal surgery in 2004 and 2006, respectively. He was granted an M.Sc. in surgical science from the University of London in 2007 and a Ph.D. in gastrointestinal surgery from the University of Nottingham in 2010. He is an ERAS pioneer in Thailand. He has authored more than 50 book chapters and more than 130 peer-reviewed scientific papers. His work has been cited in the medical literature over 2500 times with an h-index of 28.
Prof. Dr. Igor A. Kryvoruchko completed his studies at Kharkiv Medical Institute in 1983. In 1989, he completed a Ph.D. and, in 1997, he became a doctor of medical sciences. From 1983 to 2004, he worked as a surgeon-researcher and a vice-director at the Institute of General and Urgent Surgery V.T. Zaitsev of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, Ukraine. From August 2004 to the present, he has been working as the Head of the Department of Surgery No. 2 at Kharkiv National Medical University and as Head Surgeon at Kharkiv Regional Hospital. In 2002, he received a professor's certificate, and he became a Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology in 2009 for the development of methods for treating diseases of the pancreas. He has been the author and co-author of more than 850 scientific publications on various surgical problems and 42 books and textbooks for doctors and students. He has been an active member of the International Society of Surgery, the European Pancreatic Club, the World Society of Emergency Surgery, and the National Surgical Unions. He has been an Honored Worker of Science and Technology in Ukraine since 2021.
Dr. Jennifer Rickard is an acute care surgeon at the University of Minnesota with a clinical focus on trauma, surgical critical care, and emergency general surgery. She obtained her M.D. at the University of Wisconsin Schools of Medicine and Public Health. She has over 80 research publications, with research interests in global health and surgical infections. Her global health work focuses on health system strengthening and surgical capacity development. She has been working in Rwanda with the Rwanda Human Resources for Health Program since 2012. She was named as among the Top Doctors Rising Stars by Mpls St. Paul Magazine in 2019 and 2020.
Prof. Fausto Catena was the Chief of the Department of Emergency and General Surgery at Parma University Hospital (Italy) up to 2021. In 2021, he assumed the role of chief of the Department of Emergency and General Surgery at Bufalini Hospital, Cesena, Italy. He graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Bologna in 1995 and obtained his specialization in general surgery from the same University in 2000. He received a Ph.D. in physiology and physiopathology from Bologna University. In 2013, he completed the Italian national certification as a full professor of general surgery. He was then made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons UK. Also, since 2009, he has been a Member of the Committee on Publication Ethics. He is Editor in Chief of the World Journal of Emergency Surgery (WJES). He is also the General Secretary of the World Society of Emergency Surgery and the General Secretary of the Italian Society of Surgical Physiopathology. Additionally, he is the world's opinion leader in emergency surgery, and he has written all WSES guideline-position papers in this scientific field.
