Author Biographies

Prof. Morris Karmazyn obtained his PhD degree from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and, following postdoctoral research at the University of Manitoba, held faculty positions at the Department of Pharmacology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, and the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada, until his recent retirement. He is the Guest Editor of the Special Issue "Cardiovascular Diseases Prevention and Therapy" by MDPI. His research interests have mainly focused on cardiac hypertrophy; heart failure; sodium hydrogen exchange (NHE1); adipokines; and traditional Chinese medicines. His scientific output includes 254 peer-reviewed publications, corresponding to 9983 citations (h-index: 58) (Scopus, 29 December 2023). He has also edited or co-edited five books related to heart disease. He has been the recipient of numerous research awards including the Merck Frosst Award from the Pharmacological Society of Canada, an Award of Excellence from University of Western Ontario, the Vincenzo Panagia Research Award from the St. Boniface General Hospital Research Center, and the Howard E. Morgan Award from the International Academy of Cardiovascular Sciences (IACS), among others, and has presented more than 200 invited lectures. He has also served on the Editorial Boards of numerous journals as well as Canadian and American grant review panels. He is currently an Elected Fellow of the IACS.
