Prof. Paolo Arena received his Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering (cum Laude) in 1990. In 1994, he got his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.  In 1996 and 2000, he became Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in Control and System Theory at the University of Catania, respectively. Since 2016 he has been a full professor at the same University. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, Control System Society, Nuclear and Plasma Science Society and Robotics and Automation Society, Italian National Consortium Biostructures and Biosystems. Prof. Arena is the President of the "Commissione Paritetica di DIpartimento", Coordinator of the Ph.D. school in Systems, Energy, computer and telecommunication engineering of the University of Catania, member of the National Commission for the Habilitation to Associate and Full Professor in Automatic Control. Prof. Paolo Arena's research interests include the following fields: Artificial Supervised And Unsupervised Neural Networks (Theoretical aspects and application to modeling of nonlinear systems, as well as Control applications); Cellular Nonlinear Networks (CNNs) (Theoretical aspects, modeling and control of complex systems; Applications to real-time sensing/processing for diagnostics and control ); Complex Systems, CNNs and Bio-Robotics (Theoretical aspects, Bio-inspired robots design, realization and control; Hybrid systems on a chip for locomotion control); etc.

Alessia Li Noce is a Ph.D. Student at the University of Catania, Italy, where she received a degree in computer engineering in 2019 and a Master's degree in automation engineering and control of complex systems in 2021. Her research interests include mobile robotics, model predictive control and intelligent control of nonlinear systems, locomotion control, and legged robots.

Prof. Luca Patanè is a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Automatic Control at the Department of Engineering, University of Messina, Italy. He graduated in Computer Science Engineering in 2001 from the University of Catania. In 2004 he got his Ph.D. in Automation and Electronic Engineering, discussing a work entitled: "Bio-inspired Robots: from Sensing toward Perception". From May 2005 to 2017 he was a research grant assignee at the University of Catania, with the research program: "Bio-inspired architecture for the motion system control". His research focuses on bio-inspired robotics, adaptation and learning in dynamical systems, insect-inspired cognitive algorithms, system identification, soft sensor development, neural networks and learning systems, and transfer learning techniques for modelling nonlinear systems. He served as a reviewer for several journals: IEEE Trans. On Circuits and Systems, IEEE Trans. on Cybernetics, ISA Trans.,  IEEE Trans. on Robotics, Nature Machine Intelligence, Information Science, and others. He is currently part of the Editorial Board for the journal Frontiers in Neurorobotics serving as Associate Editor.
