Lanfranco D’Elia is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, "Federico II", University of Naples. He is a member of the SINU National Scientific Committee and a member of the “Italian Group on Dietary Salt Reduction” and of the SINU Working Group “LESS SALT
MORE HEALTH”, and a coordinator of the SIIA (Italian Society of Hypertension) working group on salt and cardiovascular disease.
Dr. D’Elia’s broad area of interest encompasses the study of the metabolic bases of cardiovascular diseases and the role of nutrition in cardiovascular prevention. His scientific activity particularly focuses on clinical and epidemiological aspects of the role of salt/sodium and potassium intake in cardiovascular disease and metabolism alterations. He also investigated the salt-sensitivity of blood pressure and alterations in renal sodium handling in hypertension and related metabolic conditions. Dr. D’Elia is the author of several publications in international scientific journals on these topics.
Pasquale Strazzullo, MD, FAHA, has been a Professor of Internal Medicine, and Head of the Unit of Emergency Medicine and Hypertension and of the ESH Excellence Center of Hypertension at Federico II University Medical School, till retirement in November 2019. He is an ESH Hypertension Specialist, a Golden Professional Fellow of the American Heart Association, and the Italian referent of the WHO European Salt Action Network. He is a Past-President and currently a member of the Scientific Committee of SINU (Italian Society of Human Nutrition) and Coordinator of the SINU Working Group on Salt and Health. He is also the Coordinator of the SINU committee for the V revision of the Italian Dietary Energy and Nutrients Dietary Reference Values. In his academic career, Prof. Strazzullo has been particularly committed to cardiovascular prevention: his broad area of interest encompasses the nutritional, metabolic, and genetic bases of hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic bone disorders. He was Editor-in-Chief of Nutrition, Metabolism, and Cardiovascular Diseases between 2011 and 2014, and has authored over 300 publications, the majority of which are original articles, reviews, and editorials in peer-reviewed international scientific journals and as book chapters.
