Laura C. Price is a consultant respiratory physician at Royal Brompton
and Harefield hospitals. She attained an intercalated BSc in cellular and
molecular pathology in 1995 and then graduated in medicine from the University
of Bristol in 1998. She has comprehensive training in general, respiratory, and
critical care medicine. During her training posts, she gained experience in
anesthesia from the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FRCA).
She undertook specialist training on the North West London rotation between
2005 and 2013, and during this time gained a Ph.D. in pulmonary hypertension from
Imperial College London. To advance her clinical and research experience in
this condition, she spent 12 months in the largest pulmonary hypertension center
in Paris, France. She is a clinical expert in lung disease, chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep disorders, pulmonary fibrosis, and interstitial
lung disease. Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals run a National Pulmonary
Hypertension Service, where she is a valued team member who consults patients
with pulmonary hypertension and other pulmonary vascular diseases. She has
published 121 papers with 4208 citations and an h-index of 32 (Scopus, 12
December 2023). Her research topics mainly include Pulmonary Hypertension,
anesthesia, and Critical Care Medicine.
Rakesh K. Sharma is a consultant cardiologist who treats private and NHS
patients at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. He qualified in 1995 with
triple honors from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School (now part of
King's College London). He then underwent postgraduate training at a tertiary
center in London. He won a British Heart Foundation fellowship to study for his
PhD in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College
London. He also received the Young Investigator Prize from the American Heart
Association for his research.
Athol U. Wells trained at Green Lane Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. He then came to Royal Brompton Hospital in 1989 for his postgraduate studies. He is a consultant physician at Royal Brompton Hospital. He specializes in diffuse lung disease. His areas of expertise include lung fibrosis, associated autoimmune disorders, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, other lung scarring disorders, and all forms of sarcoidosis. His research interests include prognostic evaluation in diffuse lung disease using HRCT and pulmonary function tests, defining the relationship between structure and function in diffuse lung disease, defining disease types and severity in genetic and laboratory studies, and studying new therapies in diffuse lung disease. He chairs the British Thoracic Society group revising diffuse lung disease guidelines. He sits on the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society group revising idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis guidelines.
Vasileios Kouranos completed a 5-year fellowship in Interstitial Lung Disease and Sarcoidosis at Royal Brompton Hospital before being appointed as a Consultant of the Unit. He completed his master's degree in Thoracic Oncology in 2011 after a publication about antibiotic prophylaxis of chemotherapy-induced neutropenic lung cancer patients. His PhD focused on screening patients with biopsy-proven sarcoidosis with all available conventional modalities and CMR for cardiac involvement. He has a sub-specialist expertise in sarcoidosis, particularly cardiac sarcoidosis, after developing the RBH Cardiac Sarcoidosis registry. He has great experience in the management of patients with sarcoidosis, interstitial lung disease, and pulmonary fibrosis.
