Leonid N. Maslov, M.D., Ph.D., D.Sc., Professor, head of the experimental cardiology laboratory, Cardiology Research Institute, Tomsk National Research Medical Center. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of General Medicine of Tomsk Medical Institute. In 1991, he defended his doctoral thesis, “Opiatergic Heart Protection Mechanisms from Arrhythmias with Experimental Coronary Occlusion,” for an academic degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences. In 1996, he defended his doctoral thesis, “The Role of the Opioid System in the Regulation of Arrhythmogenesis and Adaptive Protection Mechanisms of the Heart under Stress,” for an academic degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences. In 2003, he was awarded the academic title of Professor. Since 1996, he has been working as the head of the laboratory of experimental cardiology at Cardiology Research Institute. His research interests include the study of the role of opioid and cannabinoid receptors in the regulation of cardiac resistance to the action of ischemia-reperfusion, the study of molecular mechanisms of the cardioprotective effect of adaptation to hypoxia, infarct-limiting effect of hypoxic preconditioning, and molecular mechanisms of heart postconditioning. He is the author of 398 articles in central Russian and foreign journals. He holds 8 patents for inventions and was the leader and executive officer of 9 grants of the Federal Target Program, the Russian Foundation of Fundamental Research, and the Russian Science Foundation.
