Claudia Dos Santos is a Scientist in the Keenan Research Center of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael's Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Medicine, at the Department of Medicine, Division of Respirology and Interdepartmental Division of Critical Care at the University of Toronto. She received her BSc Hons in Biology from Trent University, her MSc degree from the Hospital for Sick Children in Molecular and Medical Genetics, where she worked with Dr. Manuel Buchwald on Fanconi’s Anemia and DNA repair, and her Medical degree from the Internal Medicine and Critical Care training at the University of Toronto. She continued in Toronto for her post-doc in the lab of Dr. Arthur Slutsky, a world-renowned expert on mechanical ventilation and Dr. Mingyao Liu an expert on mechanotransduction. She now holds an appointment at the Institute of Medical Sciences and Collaborative Program in Genome Biology and Bioinformatics. Her clinical specialty is Critical Care Medicine. She held a Fellowship from the Parker B. Francis Foundation, a Phase I Clinician-Scientist from the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and now holds an Early Research Award from the Ministry of Research and Innovation and a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). She has published 165 papers with 6744 citations and an h-index of 44 (Scopus, 12 December 2023).
Miquéias Lopes-Pacheco is a Researcher at Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon (Portugal). He is a Biomedical Scientist (2009) with a Specialization in Clinical Pharmacology (2011) and earned his M.Sc. (2012) and Ph.D. (2016) from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) with an International Ph.D. Internship (2013-2014) at Johns Hopkins University (USA). His research focused on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms that lead to dysfunction and/or premature degradation of CFTR variants; developing novel pharmacotherapies for cystic fibrosis (CF) and investigating cell- and gene-based therapies for respiratory diseases, namely, ARDS/ALI, asthma, COPD/emphysema, CF and lung fibrosis/silicosis. By now, he has published 55 peer-reviewed scientific articles (H-index: 23 Scopus, 27 Google Scholars), being the corresponding author in 15 publications.

Anna Krasnodembskaya is a Reader of the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine at the Queen's University Belfast. She earned her Ph.D. in Biology at St. Petersburg State University (StPSU), Russia. She was awarded the STEM CELL’s Young Investigator Award in 2017. She was selected to be a member of the StPSU Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and was appointed to an assistant professorship in the Department of Histology and Cytology there. She then conducted her second postdoctoral training at the University of California, San Francisco, in Professor Michael Matthay’s laboratory at the Cardiovascular Research Institute before becoming a Lecturer at Queen’s University of Belfast, UK. The YIA award is one of several other accolades she has already earned in her career, including a gold medal in the fundamental research work competition among young Russian scientists in the field of immunology—the highest award presented by the Russian Academy of Sciences. She has published 44 papers with 4631 citations and an h-index of 20 (Scopus, 12 December 2023). Her research topics mainly include mesenchymal stem cells, extracellular vesicles, ARDS, and Macrophages.
Patricia Rocco is a Full Professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She completed her MS studies in Science (1992) and Ph.D. studies in Physiology (1995) at the Carlos Chagas Filho Institute of Biophysics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In 1992, she entered the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro through a competitive examination as an Assistant Professor of Physiology, becoming Adjunct Professor in 1995, Associate Professor in 2008, and Full Professor in 2010. Prof. Rocco is head of the Pulmonary Research Laboratory and coordinates a team of 56 people, including post-doctors, undergraduate, and graduate students, as well as technicians. She was honored with the Medal of the Order of the National Scientific Merit as Commander in 2023 as the best scientist in Rio de Janeiro (FAPERJ) in 2010, and also she received important awards such as Young Investigator Award (Jacques Bulcão) in 1993 (Brazilian Society of Cardiology) and Antonio Luiz Viana in 1995 and 1998 (best young scientist at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro). She has published more than 450 papers with 17,140 citations and an h-index of 69 (GoogleScholar, 13 December 2023). Her research topics mainly include Mesenchymal stem cell, macrophage immunomodulation, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
