Iain Parry Hargreaves, PhD is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Biochemistry/Honorary Consultant at the Clinical Scientist Neurometabolic Unit, National Hospital, Queen Square, London, UK and the School of Pharmacy, Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, UK. Following the completion of his Ph.D. in biochemistry at Liverpool University, he worked for Prof. Simon Heales and Dr. John Land at the Institute of Neurology, University College of London, London, UK, where he was involved in the establishment of the Neurometabolic Unit, which specializes in the diagnosis of metabolic disease, especially mitochondrial and neurotransmitter disorders. He worked in the Neurometabolic Unit for 21 years until he left to take up a lecturing position in biochemistry/clinical biochemistry at Liverpool John Moores University, Liverpool, UK. He has retained an honorary consultant clinical scientist position and a senior lecturer position within the Neurometabolic Unit and the Institute of Neurology, respectively, and is still actively involved in the mitochondrial diagnostic service.
Joan Carles Domingo has a doctorate in Chemical Sciences and is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biomedicine in the Faculty of Biology at the University of Barcelona. He directs the Consolidated Group of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Targeted Drug Delivery Systems. He has published more than 80 articles in international journals, with an impact index of more than 400, and more than 20 book chapters in the area of lipid metabolism and its biotechnological applications. He has participated in more than 25 competitive projects with public funding and as many with private funding. He is the author of four patents, two of which are being exploited. In the last 15 years, he has focused an important part of his research on the development of nutritional and therapeutic applications related to Omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA. Furthermore, in recent years he has worked on the relationship between lipid metabolism and inflammation.
Dr. Jesus Castro-Marrero received a B.S. degree from the School of Biology Sciences at Havana University (Cuba) and a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Valladolid University School of Medicine (Spain). After completing an predoctoral fellowship abroad at Harvard University’s School of Medicine, he joined as a visiting senior researcher in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Cornell University Center for Enervating Neuroimmune Disease (CENID) in New York, USA. He is currently a Senior Researcher Associate for Vall d'Hebron University Hospital Research Institute (VHIR) in Barcelona, Spain. His research focuses on the biology of extracellular vesicles (EVs) and decoding differences in the microRNA expression cargo from both EVs and blood immune cells following a cardiopulmonary challenge test in a gender-specific manner in patients with ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, and long COVID.
