Kylie Hill is a professor at the Curtin School of Allied Health, Curtin University. Her research keywords and expertise include physical therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, physical activity, physiotherapy, exercise training, sedentary behaviour, muscle strength and exercise capacity. Prof. Anne Smith is a professor at the School of Allied Health at Curtin University, where she conducts high-impact clinical research in musculoskeletal pain disorders and physical activity and supervises higher degree research. In addition to qualifications in physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy and a PhD in biomechanics, she also has a master's degree in biostatistics, and her expertise in clinical biostatistics provides much needed sophistication of analyses in the field of musculoskeletal disability for her research team and for her many other research collaborations. She is an integral member of a number of research teams, leading methodological and statistical planning, data evaluation and results interpretation, reflected in over 230 publications over a wide range of applications. Prof. Smith has obtained AUD 11.3 million in grant monies over her research career and has supervised 17 PhDs to completion. She has played an instrumental role in building the evidence for integrating psychological and behavioural aspects into interventions for musculoskeletal pain.
Prof. Peter O’Sullivan is a professor of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at Curtin University, Perth, Australia. In addition to his teaching and research, he works in clinical practice as a specialist musculoskeletal physiotherapist (awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2005) in Perth, Australia. He is recognised internationally as a leading clinician, researcher and educator in the management of complex musculoskeletal pain disorders. With his team, he has developed a novel management approach for people disabling low back pain, called "cognitive functional therapy". This treatment has demonstrated efficacy in numerous clinical trials, including a recent landmark trial published in the Lancet. With his team, he has published more than 345 scientific papers, written numerous book chapters and has been a keynote speaker at over 120 national and international conferences. He also teaches the Master's of Physiotherapy program and presents masterclasses in the Graduate Physiotherapy program. His passion is to bridge the gap between research and practice in order to empower researchers, educators and clinicians in the provision of person-centred care to people in pain.
