Author Biographies

Dimitrios S Karagiannakis graduated from the Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens-Greece in 2000. After that, he completed 15 months of medical practice in villages in a Greek province, and next, he joined the Greek army for 1 year. From 2003 to 2008, he was trained in Internal Medicine at Sismanogleio General Hospital of Athens, Greece. Afterward, he specialized in Hepatology at Laiko General Hospital-University of Athens from 2008 to 2010. Three years later, he received a Doctoral degree in Hepatology (Ph.D.). He worked as a Consultant of Hepatology at Iaso General Hospital (Iaso Group of Athens) from August 2009 to October 2017 and as a Research Assistant Hepatologist at the Academic Department of Gastroenterology, Laiko General Hospital, Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, during the same period. Afterward, he worked as an Academic Research Fellow at the Academic Department of Gastroenterology, Laiko General Hospital, Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens-Greece, from 2017 to 2023. Since October 2023, he has been working at Metropolitan General Hospital of Athens-Greece as a Deputy Director of the 3rd Department of Internal Medicine while he has been directing the Liver Unit of the hospital.

Theodoros Androutsakos graduated from Athens Medical School in 2004 and became a specialist in Internal Medicine in 2015 after residency first in Sodra Alvsborg Sjukhus in Sweden and then in Laiko Hospital in Greece. He also attended the Pathology Department of Pittsburgh Medical School in the USA as a visiting scholar in 2015. In January 2020, he received his Ph.D. titled "HIV and the liver". He is an academic fellow of Athers Medical School working as an Internist and Hepatologist in the Pathophysiology department of Lalko, General Hospital since 2015. His research concerns mainly liver fibrosis and autoimmune liver disorders.
