Ferdinando D’Amico is a gastroenterologist at the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital (Milan, Italy), directed by Prof. Silvio Danese. After graduating with a degree in Medicine from the Catholic University of Rome in 2015, he obtained a specialization in gastroenterology at the Humanitas University of Milan in 2020. In 2021, he began his PhD in “Histology in inflammatory bowel diseases” at Humanitas University. He is the author and co-author of about 100 scientific articles published in international journals and book chapters. He constantly participates as a speaker at international congresses and conferences. From a clinical point of view, he is mainly interested in the treatment of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease, irritable bowel syndrome, gastroesophageal reflux disease, dyspepsia, and endoscopy.
Dr. Mariangela Allocca is a gastroenterologist from the Department of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele under the supervision of Professor Silvio Danese. After graduating from the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Milan in 1995, she specialized in gastroenterology at the same university in 1999. She completed her studies with a Ph.D. in 2004 and a European Fellowship in gastroenterology. Clinically, she is mainly engaged in the study and treatment of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, such as IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), including Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and microscopic colitis. As for scientific activity, the doctor acquired specific skills in the non-invasive assessment of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) using imaging techniques such as intestinal ultrasound. She also collaborates nationally and internationally in research protocols to develop new pharmacological treatments for IBD. She is the author and co-author of several scientific articles published in international journals and book chapters. She constantly participates as a speaker at international congresses and conferences in the industry.
Gionata Fiorino is a Senior Consultant at the IBD Center, Department of Gastroenterology at Humanitas Research Hospital, and Adjunct Teaching Professor at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Humanitas University. He graduated in 2004 with a degree in Medicine and Surgery at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Milan). In 2009, he specialized in Gastroenterology at the University of Rome, and in 2012, he was appointed Philosophiae Doctor in Clinical and Biomolecular hepatogastroenterology for children and adults at the University of Messina. In 2008, he started as a clinical research fellow at the Humanitas Research Hospital. In 2010, he was appointed as a Consultant—IBD Specialist at the IBD Center, Department of Gastroenterology, and in 2017 designated Senior Consultant. His main clinical activity has been focused on gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis), and enterocolitis. He is also the coordinator of the European guidelines (ECCO) on the treatment of Crohn’s disease, coordinator of several multicentric studies at the Italian and European levels on the treatment of chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, founder of Y-ECCO, and a member of the Panel of Experts for the production of the European guidelines on the diagnostics and monitoring of chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases, neoplastic diseases, and chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases, pregnancy, and lactation in chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases.
Alessandra Zilli is a gastroenterologist at the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Unit of the San Raffaele Hospital, directed by Professor Silvio Danese. She graduated with a degree in Medicine and Surgery in 2011 from the University of Milan and specialized in gastroenterology and endoscopy at the same University in 2017. In 2016, she obtained the SIUMB Diploma in Clinical Ultrasound. She is a gastroenterologist at the Center for Chronic Intestinal Inflammatory Diseases (IBD Center), deals with chronic intestinal inflammatory diseases (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease), digestive endoscopies, ultrasounds of the upper abdomen and intestinal loops, and is a sub-investigator of numerous research protocols with experimental therapies for chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. She is the author and co-author of many publications, actively participates in national and international conferences, and is a member of the European Society of Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases (ECCO) and the International Society of Intestinal Ultrasound (IBUS). The latter, in particular, has dedicated itself to the ultrasound training of gastroenterological specialists interested in the ultrasound of intestinal loops.
Tommaso Lorenzo Parigi is a gastroenterologist at the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, directed by Professor Silvio Danese. He graduated with a degree in Medicine and Surgery in 2017 from the University of Florence. In 2018, he worked as a Research Fellow at the Royal Free Hospital in London (UK) and specialized in gastroenterology in 2022 at the Humanitas University of Milan. From 2021 to 2022, he worked as a Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham (UK), simultaneously carrying out clinical activity in the gastroenterology department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. His clinical activity focuses mainly on intestinal diseases, primarily inflammatory intestinal diseases (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), diverticular disease, irritable bowel syndrome, dysbiosis, and celiac disease. He also performs endoscopic procedures, such as diagnostic gastroscopies and colonoscopies, outpatient operations, and surveillance chromoendoscopies. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the Italian Group for the Study of IBD (IG-IBD), and the European Crohn’s & Colitis Organization (ECCO). For the latter, he collaborated in the creation of an online course on the endoscopic diagnosis of lesions associated with IBD. He is the author of numerous international publications in the main sector journals, including Gastroenterology, Gut, and Lancet Gastroenterology.
Prof. Silvio Danese has been a gastroenterologist and Professor of Gastroenterology at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University and IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, Milan, Italy, since October 2021, where he is head of the Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit. Before that, he was head of the IBD Centre and ImmunoCentre at IRCCS Humanitas, Rozzano, Milan, Italy, and Professor of Gastroenterology at Humanitas University. He trained in Gastroenterology at Policlinico Gemelli, Rome, and graduated with a PhD, working from 2001 to 2004 in Dr. Claudio Fiocchi’s laboratory at the Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, USA. His main research area of interest is the investigation of the fundamental mechanisms underlying IBD pathogenesis, while his daily clinical activity is related to IBD service. He is actively involved in many international clinical trials in IBD. He has published more than 700 papers in several journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Gastroenterology, Gut, and Journal of Clinical Investigation. He is a member of many organizations related to the IBD field, including the European Crohn´s and Colitis Organization (ECCO), where he is a former President (2018–2020).
Federica Furfaro is a gastroenterologist at the Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy Unit of the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital, directed by Professor Silvio Danese. After graduating with a degree in medicine and surgery in 2007, she specialized in gastroenterology and digestive endoscopy in 2012 and obtained a PhD in 2015. Today, she works at the Gastroenterology clinic and deals with digestive endoscopy and abdominal intestinal loop and transperineal ultrasound. She specializes in the treatment of patients suffering from chronic inflammatory intestinal diseases. She is a sub-investigator and principal investigator of numerous observational and interventional clinical studies, especially for patients suffering from chronic inflammatory bowel diseases.
