Dr. Angelo Cignarelli is an expert in Endocrinology. Graduated from the Aldo Moro University of Bari in 2001 and specialized in 2006 at the same University, he obtained a Ph.D. in Biotechnology Applied to Organ and Tissue Transplants in 2010 and a II level Master in Biomedical Research Methods on Diabetes in 2013. He currently carries out academic activity as a type B researcher at the University of Bari and healthcare activity as a medical director at the Endocrinology Operational Unit of the Bari Polyclinic. He currently also carries out a freelance activity at an Endocrine-metabolic practice in Trani, where he deals in particular with the treatment of obesity, polycystic ovaries, erectile dysfunction, infertility of couples, and thyroid problems.

Prof. Dr. Luigi Laviola graduated from the University of Bari School of Medicine, in 1989. He then obtained the Ph.D. in Endocrine and Metabolic Sciences, at the University of Naples School of Medicine (1997), and the Endocrinology Specialty, at the University of Bari (1998). He served as a Research Fellow at the Department of Cellular and Molecular Biology and Pathology “Luigi Califano”, University of Naples “Federico II” from 1990 to 1993, and at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA, from 1994 to 1997, where he was awarded the Iacocca Foundation Research Fellowship and the JDFI Research Award. Assistant Professor of Endocrinology at the University of Bari since 1999, he has served as a member of the Scientific Committees and Scientific Study Groups of the Italian Society of Diabetology, Italian Society of Endocrinology, and Italian Society for the Study of Obesity. His scientific interests deal with the molecular mechanisms of insulin and IGF action, the molecular determinants of insulin resistance, the biochemical and molecular basis of vascular complications in diabetes mellitus, the pathophysiology of adipose tissue, and the clinical and biological effects of incretin-based therapies. Since 2011, he has served as Associate Editor of Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases.
Francesco Giorgino is Professor of Endocrinology and Chairman of the Department of Precision and Regenerative Medicine and Ionian Area at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, Bari, Italy. He is also Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at the University Hospital Policlinico Consorziale in Bari. He received his M.D. from the University of Bari Aldo Moro and his Ph.D. from the University of Naples Federico II, in Italy. He worked at the Joslin Diabetes Center and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, USA, as a postdoctoral research fellow and visiting scientist (1990-1994). He has received scientific awards from various institutions, including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International (JDRF) Fellowship (New York, NY, USA), the Mary K. Iacocca Foundation Fellowship (Boston, MA, USA), the Glaxo-Welcome Award from the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the Aldo Pinchera and Cassano Awards from the Italian Society of Endocrinology, and the Alcmeone Award from the Italian Society of Diabetology. He has been President of the Italian Society of Endocrinology (2019-2021) and is currently Senior Vice-President of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. His research interests include the mechanisms of insulin resistance and beta-cell dysfunction in type 2 diabetes and the effects of diabetes drugs on pancreatic islets and the cardiovascular system. He has an H-index of 69 and 18,500 citations (Google Scholar).
Annalisa Natalicchio is an Associate Professor of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the Department of Emergency and Organ Transplantation, University of Bari Aldo Moro, Bari, Italy. She received her MD degree (1995), her Endocrinology Specialization (2000) and her PhD degree in Biotechnologies Applied to Organ and Tissue Transplantation (2006) from the University of Bari Aldo Moro, in Italy. She is a member of the Italian Society of Diabetology (SID), Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE) and European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD). She has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Society of Diabetology (2016–2020). To date, she supervises and coordinates research projects on pancreatic beta-cell physiopathology and inter-organ crosstalk at the Biomedical Research Laboratories in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism of the Department. In addition, she serves as a Staff Physician at the Division of Endocrinology, University Hospital Policlinic of Bari.
