Roberta Maselli is a Medical Doctor specializing in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy And Gastrointestinal Surgical Endoscopy. She obtained her degree in Medicine and Surgery and later the specialty in General Surgery at the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. She also attended a one-year theoretical and practical fellowship at the SUITE Showa University International Training Center for Endoscopy, Northern Yokohama Hospital, Yokohama, Japan; during this time she achieved the Japanese “Permission of Advanced Clinical Training” for a Foreign Medical Practitioner. The fellowship mainly focused on POEM for esophageal achalasia, Diagnosis (NBI, Magnifying Endoscopy, Endocytoscopy), and endoscopic treatment (EMR, ESD) of GI cancers, SET. She also attended a 6-month theoretical and practical Fellowship at the BIDS, “Baldota Institute for Digestive Sciences”, Mumbai, India, the focus of which was Therapeutic ERCP and Diagnostic and Therapeutic EUS. She was conferred a Ph.D. in “advanced technologies in surgery” at the Sapienza University of Rome, Italy in 2016. Since September 2015, she has been the head of the Endoscopic Unit of Humanitas Research Hospital, Rozzano, Milan, Italy, alongside Dr. Alessandro Repici. Her clinical and research activity is mainly focused on the diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of early GI neoplasia and advanced endoscopic procedures, as well as on the NOTES (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery).

Fabiana Castiglione is a Professor of Gastroenterology at the Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, University of Naples Federico II, Naples, Italy. She was obtaining her B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Naples “Federico II” from 1980 to 1995. She was Head of the Outpatient Clinic of Chronic Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases from 1990 to 2013, Outpatient Unit Director of “Intestinal Ultrasound” from 1998 to 2019, Director of UOS “Advanced Therapies of Chronic Inflammatory Intestinal Diseases” from 2013 to 2019, Associate Professor in Gastroenterology from 2015 to 2019 at University of Naples Federico II. Her research interests are Inflammatory Bowel Disease; Ulcerative Colitis; Endoscopy; Liver; Gastrointestinal Diseases; IBS; Helicobacter Pylori Eradication; Crohn’s Disease; Celiac Disease; and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. She has more than 193 publications with over 9577 citations and an h-index of 47 (Scopus, 22 November 2023).

Cesare Hassan is an Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at Humanitas University. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery in 1994 and became a specialist in Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy at the Sapienza University in Rome in 1998. His clinical research turned mainly to the development of a new approach for colorectal cancer screening, mainly focusing on clinical validation, cost effectiveness and decision making, as well as for prevention of upper GI-cancer, including endoscopic and medical treatment of pre-malignant gastric conditions and Barrett’s oesophagus. In this field, he has participated in several international and national trials on the detection and characterization of colorectal polyps as a Principal Investigator or co-investigator. He was Chair of the Guideline Committee of the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2013–2017, he has published several guidelines in all the main endoscopic fields, including precancerous lesions in upper and lower GI. He was Chair Guideline Committee International Society of Diseases of the Esophagus in 2019–2021 and Treasurer European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2019–2023. As an expert in economic analysis and economic models, he has assessed the benefits and costs of new technologies such as Resect and Discard, Propofol-sedation, CT colonography, colon capsule, and so on.
Alessandro Armuzzi is a Full Professor of Gastroenterology at the Humanitas University (HUNIMED) and Director of the Postgraduate Residency Program for Digestive System Diseases. He leads the IBD Center at the Humanitas Research Hospital in Milan, Italy. He gained his MD from the University of Bologna, Italy, and completed his internal medicine and gastroenterology training at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Rome, Italy, before training in IBD at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, UK. He is widely published in IBD; his research includes genetics, diagnostic modalities to assess disease activity, clinical prediction and outcome, the design and conduct of multicentre real-world trials and advanced therapy.
Alessandro Repici is a Full Professor of Gastroenterology at the Humanitas University, Italy. Having obtained a degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Messina in 1990, he began his practice in digestive endoscopy at the Department of Gastroenterology of Molinette Hospital in Turin. In 1999, he was a fellow in Therapeutic Endoscopy at Wellseley Hospital in Toronto, Canada. From 1997 to 2005, he was a professor of Gastroenterology at the School of Oncology, University of Turin. Since 2005, he has been Director of Digestive Endoscopy Unit at Humanitas Research Hospital. Important is his experience in ERCP, diagnostic EUS, ESD, EMR, stenting, advanced polyp resection, and hemostasis for bleeding in the upper and lower GI tract. Since 2015, he has been Professor of Gastroenterology at Humanitas University Medical School. In 2016, he was a visiting professor at Georgetown University in Washington, USA. In 2017, he was a visiting professor at the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida, USA. He has been an Expert Member of the National Institute of Health of the Italian Government and a member of several national and international scientific societies of Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy. He is now Member of the Publication Committee of the World Gastroenterology Association. Official Reviewer for medical projects supported by the European Community, he is also the founder of webendoscopy.com and organizer of one of the largest European Live Endoscopy Courses, IMAGE.
