Paolo Formenti graduated in Medicine with honors from the Univeristà degli Studi di Milano (Milan-Italy), and undertook a resident program degree (with honors) at the same university. He is a research fellow at the Pulmonary Research Department of Regions Hospital (ST. Paul, MN, USA) in collaboration with Prof. J.J. Marini. He is an adjunct professor in anesthesiology, and also has an Italian Master of Science in Nursing, MSN as well as a Master of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine obtained from the WHO. Since 2011, he has been the consultant for anesthesia and critical care unit. He has a Master's in pain medicine. He currently works at the U.O. Anestesiologia e Terapia Intensiva, Asst Nord Milano, Ospedale Bassini. He is an active member of national and international scientific societies, and currently serves as board member of the pain management section of the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (SIAARTI). Dr. Formenti is an associate editor of BMC Pulmonary Medicine, editorial board member and guest editor for several Special Issues in peer-reviewed journals. He serves as a reviewer for the major international journals in the field of anaesthesia and intensive care. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed papers, reviews, editorials, and book chapters.
Francesco Corradi is currently the director of the School of Anesthesiology at the University of Pisa, as well as an associate professor in Anestesiology, having completed a Ph.D. in ultrasonography and specialized in anesthesiology and internal medicine. He is trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology, and is especially interested in clinical hepatology and liver transplant programs. During his professional experience as a consultant, he achieved particular expertise in Color Doppler, abdominal, lung, heart, and vascular ultrasonography (20 years of experience). In his research activity, he took part in clinical research projects that sought to perform functional hemodynamic evaluation by ultrasonography. In particular, he has been devoted to the investigation of the pathophysiology of hemodynamic changes in critical care patients and of the circulatory modifications induced by sepsis, hemorrhage, and hypotensive states, as detected by means of Doppler ultrasound. He has also been active in the research field of evaluating acute respiratory failure by lung ultrasonography, computer-aided diagnosis, and ultrasound-enhanced central vascular access positioning. He is a member of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM), SIAARTI, and WINFOCUS.
