Prof. Dr. F. Xavier Malcata is currently a Full Professor at FEUP. He completed his PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin in 1992 and his BSc degree from the University of Porto. His research interests include various aspects of bioreactor and bioprocess engineering, including analytical devices for monitoring. He received several previous awards, including the Foundation Scholar Award–Dairy Foods Division, the Danisco International Dairy Science Award, and the Distinguished Service Award from ADSA, as well as the William V. Cruess Award for Excellence in Teaching from the Institute of Food Technologists and the Elmer Marth Educator Award from the International Association for Food Protection. He has 486 publications with 21520 citations and an h-index of 74 (Scopus, 24 October 2023).
