Karen Quail has a background as a school counsellor and teacher. She now works independently, coaching and running workshops for parents, teachers, and childcare workers on non-violent disciplines and related topics. This research was conducted as part of a Psychology Masters at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. It was initiated to obtain reliable information while working in the field of non-violent discipline, with the aim of sharing it with others.

Catherine L. Ward is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She works on violence prevention from the perspective of children’s development and is particularly interested in developing evidence-based approaches that have a wide reach, protect children, boost their development, and reduce their likelihood of becoming aggressive.
