Grzegorz Basak is a physician, a scientist, and the head of the Department and Clinic of Hematology, Transplantology and Internal Diseases of the University Clinical Center at the Medical University of Warsaw (since 2018), as well as a former chairman of the Complications Group of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) (since 2017). He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw (2003) and obtained a PhD in medical sciences from the Department of Immunology, Biostructure Center of the Medical University of Warsaw in 2005. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at Temple University in 2003 and at the University of California, San Diego (2007–2008), in the field of experimental hematology and stem cell research. He was a scholarship holder of the Foundation for Polish Science and received a scholarship for outstanding young scientists awarded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. He was a Winner of the "Supertalents in Medicine 2016" competition, organized by Puls Medycyny, and a graduate of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education "Top 500 Innovators" program. He is a Chairman of the Working Group on Complications and Quality of Life of the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation. Currently, his main clinical and scientific interests are related to hematopoietic cell transplantation and cancer immunotherapy, as well as the role of the intestinal microbiome and new technologies in hematology.
