David W. Denning graduated from Guys Hospital, London, in 1980, with training in medicine, pediatrics, gastroenterology, hematology, infectious diseases and clinical microbiology, including a 3-year fellowship at Stanford University with Professor David Stevens (1987–1990). He is the Ex-Director of the National Aspergillosis Centre (2009–2020), the Principal Investigator of the Manchester Fungal infection Group, and the Chief Executive of the Global Action Fund for Fungal Infections (GAFFI). He has 751 publications with 70398 citations and an h-index of 111 (Scopus, 3 November 2023), mostly focused on fungal disease, resistance in fungi and treatment of fungal infection.

Dr. Honnavar obtained his MSc in Medical Microbiology from KMC, Manipal, and completed his PhD in Medical Microbiology from PGIMER, Chandigarh, India, for which he received the Prof. R. Nath Gold medal in biomedical sciences. He most recently earned his Certificate in Medical Teaching from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada. He is currently an Associate Professor in the department of Microbiology and Immunology at AUACOM, Antigua. He has received numerous awards for his research in the field of medical mycology, including the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology Young Scholarship twice, the Dr. P. Venugopal Glaxo Meritorious award, the Nawopia Dr. Pankajalakshmi V. prize, the Kamalam Glaxo award, and three international travel awards. He has authored over 25 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals, with over 530 citations, an H-index of 13, and an i10 index of 15. He has delivered several presentations at many national and international conferences. He is also the reviewer of several journals: the Medical Mycology, Indian Dermatology online J, Indian J Medical Microbiology, International Wound J, and Virology & Immunology J. Before joining AUA, Dr. Honnavar was the system chair of Infection and Immunity and an assistant Professor in the Xavier University School of Medicine, Aruba, where he taught MD students Microbiology and Immunology for three years in a fully integrated organ system-based curriculum.
