Prof. Dr. Ahmet Gurakar is a Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in the USA. He has served in various capacities in various liver transplant programs in the US since his fellowship training at the Starzl Transplant Institute at the University of Pittsburgh. He joined JHU in 2008. His clinical interests include pre- and post-transplant care, clinical and endoscopic management of liver diseases, and post-transplant care of viral hepatitis. His research interests include the application of total plasma exchange in the treatment of liver disorders, the usage of high-risk donors, cardiac outcomes in post-liver transplantation, and the evaluation of NAFLD among healthy living liver donors. He has 165 publications with 3148 citations, and an h-index of 29 (Scopus, 31 October 2023).
