Shivani Srivastava, During her Ph.D., studied some self-adaptive approaches utilized by pancreatic beta cells against streptozotocin (STZ)-induced onset of type 1 diabetes, and insulin-expressing potential of intestinal cells during the progression of type 2 diabetes in rat models. Along with this, she explored some phytoconstituents that activate the mechanism of incretin hormones GLP-1 and GIP (released from the GI tract after nutrient intake and augments glucose-induced insulin secretion) in the prevention of diabetes. Before she took her current position, she also had the opportunity to work on cardiovascular diseases at Ohio State University and UCLA as a postdoctoral scholar. Currently, she focuses on Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome, diabetes, and adiposity, and on the therapeutic impact of ENPP-1, a crucial enzyme that regulates ectopic calcification and bone mineralization.
