Author Biographies

Vera I. Slaveykova is a full professor of environmental biogeochemistry and ecotoxicology at the University of Geneva. She works on the development of novel concepts and tools for a better understanding of fundamental processes governing behavior and impacts of trace elements, nanoparticles and microplastics as well as their interactions with various biotic and abiotic constituents of aquatic systems. Her research interests and portfolio include the following: (i) speciation and bioavailability of trace elements and nanoparticles in the aquatic environment; (ii) aquatic toxicology of inorganic contaminants, nanoparticles and microplastics; transcriptomics and metabolomics; (iii) community ecotoxicology and biodiversity in aquatic systems. She is teaching different classes for the Bachelor students at the Section of Earth and Environmental Sciences, for Master students enrolled in the interdisciplinary Master of Environmental Science of the Institute for Environmental Sciences and Master in African studies of the Global Study Institute. Currently she serves as a member of the National Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation.
