Lars Vabbersgaard Andersen received his MSc in Civil Engineering from Aalborg University in 1999. He obtained his PhD degree in Civil Engineering at Aalborg University in 2002. After three years as an Assistant Professor in Hydraulic Engineering, he became an Associate Professor in Geotechnical Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering, Aalborg University. In 2017, he was appointed Full Professor of Computational Methods at the Department of Engineering (since 2021: Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering), at Aarhus University. Prof. Andersen's main teaching and research areas are numerical methods, wave propagation in soil and structures, soil–structure interaction, foundations for offshore wind turbines, building acoustics, structural analysis, constitutive models, and statistical analysis. He has supervised 20 PhD students and more than 80 MSc students in these fields and published more than 150 papers in top-tier scientific journals and international conference proceedings. He has been involved in several research projects focusing on cost reduction for offshore wind turbine foundations, dynamic soil–structure interaction, and vibration in timber buildings.
