Prof. Antonio Gasbarrini, is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, Full Professor of Internal Medicine, and Director of the Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences and of the UOC of Medicine Internal and Gastroenterology of the A. Gemelli IRCCS University Polyclinic Foundation of Rome. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery with honors in 1988 from the University of Bologna, and is a specialist in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy. He attended the Liver Transplantation Department of the University of Pittsburgh (USA) as a Clinical and Research Fellow in Gastroenterology from 1990 to 1993. From 2006 to 2008, he was Secretary of the Italian Liver Study Association (AISF) and from 2008 to 2011, President of the Italian Foundation for Hepatology Research (FIRE). He is a member of the Board of Directors of the European Helicobacter and Microbiota Study Group (EHMSG) and of the European Association of Gastroenterology Endoscopy and Nutrition (EAGEN). He is part of the scientific committee of the United European Gastroenterology (UEG) and the Italian Celiac Association (AIC). His fields of interest concern inflammatory and oncological diseases of the gastrointestinal system, liver, and pancreas. He is the principal investigator of numerous trials with the most innovative drugs for Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, cirrhosis and liver tumors, and irritable bowel syndrome and dysbiosis.
