Marco A. Ciufolini received his BSc at Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL, USA, in 1978, and his PhD at the University of Michigan in 1981. He currently holds the position of Professor and Canada Research Chair in synthetic organic chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia. He is a leading expert in organic chemistry with significant expertise in medicinal chemistry. He has various awards to his name, including the 2013 Canadian Society for Chemistry R. U. Lemieux Prize. His research interests center on the chemical synthesis of nitrogenous natural products and span natural products chemistry, synthetic methodology, and medicinal chemistry.
