Bassem Oraibi is a lab specialist at Jazan University, Jazan, KSA. He graduated from the Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, University of King Abdul Aziz, in the field of laboratory technology in 2009 and obtained his master of science in biological sciences from State University Of New York At Fredonia, USA. He has always been eager to learn every aspect of biomedical research. During his undergrad, he conducted graduate research in parasitology under the supervision of Prof. Majed Waked. Following that, while pursuing his MSc, he had the opportunity to work with Dr. Okeke. He started his MSc. project soon after joining the Dr. Okeke Lab in the spring of 2021. Okeke’s lab is interested in understanding the importance of NE (neutrophil elastase) and NETs (neutrophil extracellular traps), which are implicated in multiple pathogens, including but not limited to inflammation and cancer. During his years in Fredonia, he explored the effects of multiple new-generation obesity and weight loss drugs by preparing several talks, delivering a few presentations, and writing a review on how obesity can complicate breast cancer recovery in obese breast cancer patients. Currently, he works as a lab supervisor at the Medical Research Center( MRC), at Jazan University. In the MRC, he organizes education and training events like Western blotting, ELISA, and, recently, HPLC, and he works hand in hand with active researchers.
