Athanasios Toumpis received his M.Sc. degree in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from the University of Glasgow, UK, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Strathclyde, UK. He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. His subject areas concentrate on Materials Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, specifically on advanced joining and surface engineering processes for metallic materials. His research interests include friction stir welding (FSW), steel metallurgy, Microscopy, mechanical testing, fatigue testing, thermal/thermo-mechanical analysis, and failure analysis.
Yevgen Gorash got an M.Sc. degree from NTU "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute" (Ukraine) in 2004 and a Ph.D. degree from Martin Luther-Universitat Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) in 2008. He is currently a Research Fellow at the Weir Advanced Research Centre (WARC) at the University of Strathclyde (Glasgow, UK). His current research interests include studying and modelling non-linear material behaviour: Plasticity and Viscoplasticity, Creep, Fatigue, Hyperelasticity, and Unified material models. These non-linear material effects are applied to the residual life assessments of engineering structures subject to severe loading conditions using FEA and concepts of Continuum Damage Mechanics.
