Jacqueline I Alvarez-Leite is a medical doctor specializing in Nutrology, with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Immunology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and a Ph.D. internship at Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique-Unité d'Écologie et Physiologie du Système Digestif (France), technic internship at National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH-NIAID) and postdoc fellow at Harvard Medical School - Massachusetts General Hospital (USA). She is a Full Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Immunology at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, head of the Laboratory of Atherosclerosis and Nutritional Biochemistry (LABIN-UFMG), associate physician at the Alfa Institute of Gastroenterology (Hospital das Clínicas/UFMG), and coordinator of the Grade III Obesity Nutritional Therapy Team (ETNO) of the Bariatric Surgery Group at UFMG. Her major research interests include atherosclerosis and dyslipidemia, obesity, metabolic syndrome, antioxidants, and inflammatory bowel diseases.
