Graduated in Veterinary Medicine, specializing at the University of Parma in Animal Health and Production, Diplomate of the European College of Porcine Health Management. He has been working for 15 years in veterinary public health, dealing with infectious diseases in animals, zoonoses, arthropod-borne diseases, and food safety. He is head of the Modena Laboratory of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell'Emilia Romagna (IZSLER).
