Vitor Anes was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1976, and received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering, in 2009 and 2015, respectively, both from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal. He has been a faculty member of Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL) at the Department of Mechanical Engineering since 2015, where he has been teaching engineering mechanics courses (statics, dynamics, machine design, fracture mechanics, and risk management). His main research areas are cyclic plasticity, multiaxial fatigue behavior of materials, fracture mechanics, experimental mechanics, structural reliability, risk-based fatigue life prediction and design, finite element analysis, and computer-aided design. He has published over 50 papers in international refereed conferences and peer-reviewed journals. More recently, Vitor Anes has been focused on the extent of the life cycle of aerospace structures by improving their maintainability in early design stages. Applications of this work include the development of more reliable structural designs to extend the life cycle of aerospace structures.
