Cover Story: Several concepts for future antiferromagnetic spintronic devices have been proposed in which the antiferromagnetic moment/domain control is a key technique. Magnetoelectric effect can be caused by an interplay between magnetism and electricity and is expected as a principle controlling antiferromagnetic moment/domain state. In addition to the principle demonstration in the device structure, there is a technological challenges in lowering the total thickness to decrease the switching energy. This work shows the magnetoelectric effect and the principle demonstration using Cr2O3 with 30-nm-thickness regime, which will help toward an acceleration of device development as well as a deeper understanding of the principle.
