Cover Story: Concussion in para athletes with vision impairment (VI) is poorly understood. Given that para athletes with VI may be more likely to sustain sport-related concussions compared to non-disabled athletes and athletes with other impairment types, there is a critical need for objective concussion incidence measures to determine their concussion injury rates and risks more accurately. This review examines the limited available evidence on concussion incidence rates across six different para sports. Prospective, sport-specific research examining concussion injury mechanisms and risk factors for athletes with VI is needed to better determine the effectiveness of the injury prevention strategies that have been introduced. In turn, this research will inform future injury prevention strategies to reduce concussion risk for athletes with VI. View this paper
