Cover Story: Infection related to implanted biomaterials is a serious issue in clinics. In this study, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) Pac-525 undergo self-assembly on gold substrates, forming good antibacterial surfaces with stable antibacterial behavior. The self-assembling monolayer of alkanethiols HS10SH is applied for the secondary self-assembly of Pac-525 derivatives, which effectively enhance the bactericidal performance of the grafted AMPs, reducing the viable amount of E. coli and S. aureus to 0.4% and 33.2%, respectively. Self-assembled monolayers of the Pac-525 derivatives have promising potential in the surface modification of implanted biomaterials for anti-infections. View this paper
