In Ethiopian rural marketplaces, farmers trade products using heterogeneous local units of measurement. Most of these situations are not only create uncertainties and measurement costs but also disturbs the macro-economy. Therefore, the study aimed at examining the cereal quantity measurements behaviors of farmers to address the local marketplace measurement reliability, exchange equitability, and institutional developments. The findings revealed that the farmers' cereals quantity measurements behaviors proved the existence of unreliability which created the transaction and measurement costs. Hence, the application of either idiosyncratic or international standard measures, or intervention of institutions, would have a huge potential for minimizing transaction costs and making equitable exchange.
